3 Days & Three Countries, Snowmobile Safari!
Experience "The White Sahara", See The highest mountains of Finland, Learn the secrets of deep snow driving, Visit The meeting point of 3 countries – Finland, Sweden and Norway!
5 days Tour, 3 days Snowmobile Safari.
Karesuvanto village and icy border river between Finland and Sweden.
Arrival to the Kittilä airport and a transfer to Karesuvanto Sami village - (approx. 2 hour). Information about the safari programme. Dinner and accommodation in house or cottages for 2-6 persons with sauna, shower and WC.
After breakfast the delivery of the safari equipment (warm overalls, boots, socks, mittens, hat, gloves, helmet). Introduction to the snowmobiles and how to drive them. Safety rules and the start of the safari.
We will drive on the top of the fells, over the frozen lakes and rivers. First overnight we spend in a middle of white wilderness("white Sahara") in a lovely cabin in a Raittijärvi Sami village. During the evening we have a sauna by the lake, and if you would like to try swimming in the ice cold water (hole on the ice) it`s possible too. After sauna and dinner we spend a nice relaxing evening and the guide will tell about the reindeer herding. The driving distance will be approx. 100km.
On the way to the Raittijärvi!
Raittijärvi is a unique village by any standard. It is situated about 30 kilometres from Kilpisjärvi in the middle of real wilderness. There is no road leading to the village. In summer it can be reached by seaplane only. In winter snowmobiles offer the easiest means of transportation. Raittijärvi is inhabited by Sami reindeer herders throughout the year.
Here you will see how the real reindeer herdsmen live in the tundra! We will have the possibility to see tens to hundreds of reindeer in their natural environment. During this excursion we have a unique chance to follow a local Sami reindeer herder to the fells where his flock of reindeer runs free!
If the weather is clear we have excellent chances to see the NORTHERN LIGHTS!
In the morning we make coffee and have breakfast. Then we try our luck with ice fishing! During the day our experienced fishing guide will share his knowledge of the best fishing places where fish are just waiting to be caught! Of course fishing and snowmobiling is the activity of the day but we don’t forget to enjoy the nice arctic views and the wild nature with a cup of coffee every now and then. Late afternoon we will drive to Kilpisjärvi. The driving distance will be approx. 70-100 km. Picnic lunch along the way. Sauna, dinner and overnight in the holiday village Kilpisjärvi in chalets for 2 persons with sauna, shower and WC.
Kilpisjärvi is a tiny arctic village located in northwestern Lapland, about 400 kilometres above Arctic Circle. It is surrounded by the highest peaks of Finland, including Mount Halti (1384m) on the border of Finland and Norway. There are less than one hundred permanent residents in the village.
On the last safari day we will drive to the beautiful mountain area and visit the border monument of 3 countries – Sweden, Norway and Finland. So, here you get three countries on the same day. Then we will head back to Karesuvanto. The route goes on the icy border river between Finland and Sweden. Picnic lunch along the way. The driving distance will be approx. 130km-150 km.
In the evening we will have sauna and farewell dinner in Karesuvanto. Night in house or cottages for 2-6 persons with, shower and WC.
Breakfast and a transfer to the Kittilä airport.
Safari ends traditionally by going into a sauna and enjoying a nice farewell dinner with your guides.
You can arrive in Kittilä airport (Finland), Rovaniemi airport (Finland), Kiruna airport (Sweden), Troms airport (Norway) or Kolari train station (Finland).
